In our first theory as practice Friday seminar with Rob, we were asked to read an article ‘The Poetics of Open Works’ - Umberto Eco (1962) and discuss, in an ad-hoc reading group.
We decided to do in a group with our house-mates.It was quite difficult to do this task, but this is our outcome about it:
Every
piece of art can be viewed differently depending on the current emotion of the
viewer. Although their past experiences influence “the message”. Art is a very
lucid form viewed by everyone differently, but the artist puts his piece in
frames limiting the ‘”openness” of their work to some extent.
Metamorphosis Kafka. Good example. Communication with the reader. No provided guidelines. No moral compass provided by the author only the one that leads the reader. Letting him come up with his own conclusions of the situation.
